ATT: New Jersey Traffic Courts
Driver Education As A Sentencing Alternative...
A principal concern of the court in handling these traffic cases is that the defendant not repeat the offenses which brought the defendant into the court. Any punishment or conditional discharge imposed is intended to be remedial. participation in a driver education course has proven to be effective improving overall motor vehicle safety and lowering the repeat traffic offence rate.
While it appears that the statutes allow courts broad discretion in selecting programs we respectfully suggest that courts select only those driver improvement programs which demonstrate proven effective in improving overall traffic safety on the part of the people who take and complete the course.
Garden State Safety Council's DDC (Defensive Driving Course) has shown the highest overall effective rate in driver safety education
GSSC's DDC is aimed toward behavior modification and to instruct Students in New Jersey Vehicle and Traffic Laws and accident avoidance. The six hour session strives to modify repeatedly negative, aggressive driving behavior.
The DDC is primarily offered as an educational course for those careless and reckless drivers who have violated motor vehicle laws as an additional sanction to the fine imposed upon the defendant by a judge. However, the topics covered in the DDC can provide valuable information for anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car, as a motor vehicle safety affects drivers and pedestrians alike.
GSSC is an officially approved sponsor of the New Jersey DMV and can be a valuable part of many sentences imposed, after trial or negotiations.
As an official sponsor, GSSC has demonstrated to
the satisfaction of the
Department of Motor Vehicles that completion of its
driver improvement course
results in both reducing traffic accidents and a reduction in repeat traffic
offenses - for the highest overall effective rate in driver safety education.
In fact, GSSC has demonstrated up to 18.2% reduction for traffic accidents and
57.3% reduction in repeat traffic offenses. GSSC's DDC has proven to
be effective, when referring defendants to such a driver safety course.
Why use our multi-million dollar court system as a revolving door?
As an Example: Drunk Driving Programs have reduced repeat offences by 70% for those who take and complete the program. What about careless, reckless drivers? As with the drunk drivers, strict enforcement of the law and education are key to reducing the number of drunk drivers on our roads. The DDC program works to reduce accidents and repeat traffic offenses.
